Automotive
The automotive industry accounts for around £1 billion of the North East's Gross Value Added and more than 26,000 jobs. The region's 220 automotive related companies support many more staff engaged in dedicated support services such as research, development, logistics and training.
Home to Nissan's Motors UK (NMUK) since 1984, the Sunderland plant produces 25% of all the cars manufactured in the UK. The plant has been one of Europe's most efficient car plants for the last eight years and supports an extensive supply chain exists including Hashimoto, Magna Kansei, Calsonic Kansei, TRW, Johnson Controls, Unipres, Tacle Seating, R-Tek, SAI Automotive and TKA Tallent Chassis.
Over the past 20 years, RTC North has developed excellent relationships with North East industry and has worked on hundreds of projects aimed at improving process efficiency and best practice among large and small companies. Since 2002, we have run the North East Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) adding over £25 million to the value of North East indsutry.
Other large Original Equipment Manufacturers which support important supply chains include British Engines, Caterpillar, Cummins, Explorer Group, Komatsu, Tanfield Group (Smiths Electric Vehicles) and Komatsu.
