£1.3 million for Enterprise in North East Schools
£1.3million has been accessed by over 300 schools across the Northern regions through the Northern Way initiative. The NEEP programme has funded 118 schools from the North East providing opportunities for teachers and pupils to become more enterprising.
Up to £9,500 worth of enterprise activity as well as staff training is currently taking place in our regional schools. Schools had to write a successful bid to access the scheme and the funding was to provide a platform to embed enterprise at key stage 3. Many examples of good practice have been developed and some activities have included enrichment days, creative workshops, enterprise challenges, inset training, industry visits, careers days and enterprise conferences.
The programme has been a great success, with North East schools making a huge contribution to enterprise in the region. To celebrate the success of the programme schools were invited to exhibit at the Stadium of Light, in January 2008. The event was very energetic and featured the talents of a drumming band, jugglers, a school printing company, a fair trade shop, a dvd's of school events......and many more exciting exhibitions.
